AMC have trained 2,283 overseas medical professionals from 82 countries for the last five years

From 2012 to 2016, 2,283 overseas medical professionals came to AMC to learn sophisticated and advanced medical skills; based on continents, 1,568 from 22 Asian countries followed by 218 from 2 North American countries, 178 from 25 European countries, 152 from 11 Middle Eastern countries, 71 from 2 Oceanian countries, 54 from 13 African countries, and 42 from 7 South American countries (see the figure); based on countries, China (373) followed by India (243), the United States (201), Mongolia (162), Vietnam (125), Japan (123), and Saudi Arabia (101).

 

Especially last year, a record number of 617 overseas medical professionals visited AMC for training. In 2016, the department preferred the most by overseas medical professionals was the Department of Cardiology (111), followed by the Department of Radiology (104) and the Department of Liver Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery (94). They favor a training program of cardiovascular intervention run by the Department of Cardiology.

AMC provides overseas medical professionals with information for dormitory and library use through Asan Medical International to help them adjust to a new environment. An orientation session for overseas medical professionals of diverse nationalities has been recently launched to encourage them to interact with one another and promote a network of Asan alumni.
